Yes….it was rather chilly…..but the lights were lovely!

“These Kamen,” the Four Doctor says gentley. “Are they on this planet now?”

“N..no,” she stammers out quite worked up now. “We drove them off, but the planet. She’s hurt. Hurt really bad. She cries.”

The Fourth Doctor looks intrigued by this piece of news. He thinks he knows what the life force is. After all why build a forest full of missiles just to protect a young woman. No there is something to it.

“What is the life force?” he asks, pressing his luck.

“I don’t know!” she screams standing up suddenly. She backs herself up into the wall. Her eyes now glowing a starry green. “I don’t know! I DON’T KNOW.”

“Ah, it’s as I thought,” he says for to himself than anyone else. The Doctor turns to Romana and say’s quite calmly, “I think we may have over-stayed our welcome.”

Romana looks at the Doctor quizzically, obviously he’s worked out the whole situation thoug she cannot fathom how. She herself is still mostly in the dark. Yes there are a few theories simmering in her Time Lord mind, but nothing definitively seems to explain all of the odd things they’ve seen. She does hope he’ll explain it all to her soon.

She then directs her attention to the terrified young woman before them. They’ve obviously upset her and Romana sincerely wishes there was something she could do to comfort the girl….but she suspects that any further intervention on their part would only result in more of a scene. Suddenly Romana notices the girl’s eyes. They’ve taken on a strange color and shine that they did not have moments ago. Suddenly a few things begin to click into place in the Time Lady’s head…but….surely not…..and how? She’s about to raise these questions with the Doctor when he informs her that they ought to leave. Considering the strange girl’s growing alarm and their previous near-disaster, she is inclined to agree with him.

“Alright then, how do you propose we get out?” she looks around the room yet again, “I assume you’re going to suggest we go through the door the guard just left? It is the only way….but it’s going to be very tricky.”

The girl’s panic increases as she presses herself up against the wall of the room. The Doctor looks from Skylar to Romana. His expression is that of a troubled man. He knows that the only ethical way out is gone.

“That door is dead locked sealed, Romana,” he tells her solemnly. He turns back to Skylar whose entire body is starting to glow. “Our friend here is building up a large amount of energy and I think we have about forty-two seconds before the energy has to be released.”

It takes Romana a full half-second to process this information. A dead-lock seal means, of course, there is no way for him to sonic a way out. And forty-two seconds is not nearly enough time to improvise some other means of getting through the door.

"Well….Doctor….what exactly do we do now?" she looks at him with an expression that plainly says you’d better have some sort of plan because I am out of ideas.

Romana tries to prevent any panic from clouding her mind. She thinks about the facts as they now stand. Obviously, this girl is the life-force of the planet. Though how exactly that works, she is unsure. Obviously, she is being sequestered here in an attempt to protect her from outside disturbances…..disturbances like the one they have just caused by questioning her.

"Do you think they have some means of monitoring her, Doctor?" she says as Skylar’s condition worsens, "Will they be able to see what’s happening and intervene somehow?"

At this point, being captured would be preferable to being blown up. The Doctor can generally talk his way out of imprisonment…explosions? Not so much.

Romana is still confused and unsure of what she’s seen and the look she gives the Doctor tells him as much. Clearly he has worked it out, though she doesn’t know how. His mind always seems to make the most abstract connections where most people’s don’t. She doesn’t ask him to explain though. He doesn’t seem to be in the mood to do so and, besides, it would be much more sensible to learn the details when they aren’t in such peril…even if being in the dark is a tad infuriating.

"Well, Doctor, how do you propose we get out of here?" she looks around the room again, throwing a still-terrified Skylar an apologetic look, but finds no means of exist, besides the door the girl’s keeper entered through.

Skylar looks up at the Doctor and Romana.

"See this is why you have to go," she tells them. "Leave in your ship or however you got here. You don’t need to get caught up in this planet’s problems."

"I think it’s too late for that," the Doctor tells her. "What are these problems?"

She presses her lips together and looks like she’ll refuse to speak. The Doctor does know patience though and a mere five minutes later she opened her mouth to speak.

"Off world visitors have to come to destroy our planets life source," she tells them. "They want to harvest our resources and use the people as slaves."

Romana responds quickly, the need for haste now deepened after that near disaster. Her mind still trying to work out away Skylar’s obviously force-fed story could coincide with what they’ve observed about the planet and it’s not-forest she asks,

"What life source, Skylar? And these visitors, they’re the Kamen? How are they going to go about destroying it?"

The girl looks more frightened than ever after Romana’s hasty questioning and the Time Lady wonders whether she should not have been more gentle. While Skylar seems to be weighing the risks of responding, Romana looks at the Doctor and wonders if he, more experienced as he is, has worked out what is going on. If he has, she hopes he doesn’t wait until the last possible moment to tell her his plan.

Romana almost didn’t want to ask what the Kamens might be. Sitting and talking was making her increasingly anxious, she was ready to find out what in the world was going on here…

The Doctor quickly glances about the room, alarmed at the knocking on the door. His eyes land on the only thing that might provide enough hiding space for the pair of them. A large, oak wardrobe over on the opposite side of the room. He crosses the room in a couple strides and swings the door open. It will be a tight fight but it will have to do.

"In we go Romana," he tells her as she joins him. He then turns his attention to Skylar. "Best not tell them we’re here."

Skylar’s face doesn’t reassure the Doctor in the least, but she nods her head.

It’s pitch dark inside the wardrobe which, oddly, only seems to contain two other sets of clothing, exactly the same as those that Skylar is currently wearing.

Attempting to soundlessly breathe, Romana carefully peers through the slight gap between the two doors in and catches a glimpse of a man opening the door with a wooden tray in his hands. He appears to be much the same as every other native they have met since arriving here, except that he is wearing what appears to be a protective suit of some sort. Romana supposes this must be to further the illusion that the outside world is some sort of hazard.

He places the tray on a small table without a word. Skylar, she notices, does not look at him, almost as though frightened of what she might see. The man leaves as soon as his task is complete, without a second glance to the girl he is holding prisoner.

Romana and the Doctor wait a few tense moments to be sure he is truly gone before popping out of the stuffy cabinet and back into the room.
